Looking after your vehicle in Autumn

Now that mornings are starting to get a little chillier and daylight savings is over, it's time to think about getting your car ready for winter.

Of course the best thing you can do is book your vehicle in for a service at Balmain Automotive where we can make sure your vehicle will run smoothly and get you safely through the colder months.

However, here are a few things you can look at yourself:

1. Check your tyres.

Having bald tyres on your car is risky thing to do even in dry conditions , but in wet weather it's just plain dangerous. Check the wear on your tyres to make sure you still have the enough tread depth. Those grooves in your tyres need to be at least 3mm deep. Also don't forget to check that your tyre pressures match the manufacturer’s recommendation. All cars have a placard with recommended inflation pressures in the glove box, inside the driver's door, under the fuel cap or under the bonnet. These details are also in your car's manual.

2. Replace Wiper blades

It probably a good idea to replace wiper blades right now. Most people don't bother changing them and put up with poor visibility. That's not safe, especially with the amount of rain we have been having recently. If you are uncertain about how to replace your wiper blades give us a call.

3. Test your Lights.

Shorter days means we are more reliant on our car’s lights. It's hard to tell if they are all working while your are driving. Get a friend to help to check all the lights are working properly including of headlights, indicators, brake lights and hazard lights.

4. Does your heater work?

It won’t be long until you find your windscreen is starting to fog up. You might try and throw some warm air on to the glass to clear it but if your heater is not working you are in a dangerous situation. Check your heater now and make sure you are ready for a chilly morning.

Of course there is no substitute for booking in for a service at Balmain Automotive. Contact us on 02 90810 6326 today.
